Taiwan Art Quilt Society: Butterfly Garden

This isn’t an African American quilt, but it shares some of the same elements. The Taiwan Art Quilt Society focuses on preserving and teaching culture. Butterfly Garden is a narrative quilt since it preserves the history of endangered butterflies. The quilter brings them to attention by their elaborate depiction of flowers and butterflies. In some areas, it appears as if the flowers are three-dimensional. Anyone viewing this quilt will definitely have a better awareness of what the world could look like if we preserved these butterflies. According to the American Museum of Natural History, Taiwan is home to around 400 species of butterflies.
